Injectable Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are loved by both men and women, for their ability to plump up thin lips, define and highlight the cheekbones and jawline, smooth wrinkles, and improve the surface and texture of skin.

Dermal Fillers are hyaluronic acids designed to be injected beneath the surface of the skin to add volume and fullness.

They can also be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds. In most patients, results last up to 6 – 18 months.

Before & After
Are there any side effects?

Every patient is different, but as most dermal fillers are made of bio-compatible hyaluronic acids, there’s no allergic reaction as a rule. Some patients may experience mild versions of the following:

  • Slight redness
  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Bruising
  • Pain or tenderness

The reactions are generally mild to moderate and usually disappear shortly after injection. They typically resolve spontaneously within one or two days, but for some treatments, they may last longer. How long will my Dermal Filler last? Dermal fillers are long-lasting but not permanent, as they will gradually break down and leave the body. How long you get from your filler depends on many factors-your skin type; your age, your lifestyle. You’ll usually expect to need a touch-up treatment after 6 – 18 months, depending on the areas treated; and once you’ve had filler done twice you’ll have a better idea of how your body responds and the expected duration of the effects.

Cheeks

A high cheekbone is a hallmark of youth. But in our late 30’s and 40’s, loss of facial volume from the age-related deflation of the deep fat pads on the main factor contributing to the hollowed, sagging, flattened and, hence, aged look of the face.

By injecting fillers deep into the mid-face tissue we are in turn attempting to restore lost volume, and lift the facial tissue that has started to drop. Fillers are designed to subtly contour the face and restore balance, it’s the gold standard for nonsurgical cheek augmentation or cheek enhancement.

If you are experiencing any of these signs of aging, you may be a candidate for cheek or mid-face fillers:

  • Hollowed cheeks
  • Flattened cheekbones
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Under eye hollows
  • Down sloping mouth corners
  • Sagging skin in the cheek area and in the jawline
  • Deflated temples
  • Drooping skin in general

Here at ABA, the cheek filler options we use consist of hyaluronic acid which is a substance found naturally within the skin. It is injected deep beneath the skin, to offer greater support and structure to the overlying skin. Injecting cheek fillers into these deep layers can create a noticeably smoother appearance to the skin; provide lift and more substantial definition to the facial structure.

Lips

Like other features of the face, the lips can go through changes over time. Loss of volume due to collagen depletion and sun damage can affect this delicate area the same way they can lead to loose skin and the formation of wrinkles. The lips can thin, creating a worried or angry appearance, even when that is not how you feel. In some cases, the lips may have never sported the full look you want. With a greater focus on a plumper pout today, that lack of definition around the mouth may seem even more insufficient.

Whether you have had thin lips your whole life or have lost your pucker through the aging process, lip augmentation is a proven way to create shape, volume, and definition. Lip injections with temporary dermal fillers are reasonably priced and can be done during your lunch hour.

Tear Troughs

While aging is inevitable, it is possible to reduce signs of aging in the face, particularly around the eyes. Over time, the orbital septum in the lower eyelid can weaken. This, together with a gradual loss of soft tissue volume in the midface, accentuates the appearance of the lower bony orbital margin between the eyelid and the cheek, leaving patients with a tired, aged appearance. For patients who experience dark circles and hollows around their lower eyelids, an eyelid rejuvenation procedure may be an effective treatment option. One popular treatment option is using fillers which is a non-surgical procedure.

What are Tear Trough Filler Injections?

Juvederm and Restylane are injectable hyaluronic acid fillers. They are designed to add fullness and volume to the soft tissues of the face, correcting common facial issues such as wrinkles, lines, hollows and folds. When a filler is injected into the area under the lower eyelids (also known as the “tear troughs”), the appearance of dark circles and eyelid hollows can be significantly reduced.

What makes patients choose Tear Trough Filler Injections for their treatment?

This treatment has a proven safety record, and is effective in improving the appearance of lower lid dark circles and hollows for suitable patients without the “downtime” associated with cosmetic eyelid surgery and fillers do not cause persistent swelling in the lid area following treatment.

How long will this procedure take, and tell me about the recovery time frame?

Patients often elect to have Tear Trough filler Injections since the procedure often takes just 20-30 minutes, with little to no discomfort and a low risk of side effects. The recovery time is minimal, although patients are advised not to engage in vigorous exercise for a few days afterwards. It is preferable to avoid make-up for at least two days following the treatment.

Is this procedure right for me?

A patient’s suitability should first be determined by your provider who can assess the eye and eyelids appropriately and that has expertise to perform the Tear Trough procedure. Patients must, however, inform their provider of any past non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments before the injections are scheduled. In some cases, your provider may recommend a lower eyelid blepharoplasty for patients who are not suitable for Tear Trough Restylane Injections.

How long do the results of this treatment last?

Results typically last from approximately 9 to 12 months before repeat treatment is required. However, patients who have repeated injections tend to see progressively longer-lasting results, often with less product required at repeat injection sessions. Additional injections can be given within 1 to 2 weeks of the initial treatment if there is any noticeable asymmetry.
